| Using Mamp |

If you own a Mac and develop LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) sites, I’m not sure why you wouldn’t use MAMP for your local dev environment versus screwing around with the Mac’s built-in Apache, etc. It’s totally self-contained, and doesn’t conflict with OS X’s built-in Apache - just turn off Personal Web Sharing if you are using port 80 for Apache in MAMP. One word of caution though. I recently installed an new version of MAMP over my current version, and though I had set my web document root to my Sites folder (outside of the MAMP folder in Applications), the MySQL databases were somewhere in the MAMP Applications folder, and therefore, were erased during he upgrade. Luckily, Time Machine got it’s first chance to save my butt and I was able to restore recent versions of the databases I’d lost. I’ve looked around the forums for a way to place the dbs outside of the MAMP folders, like you can with web root, but I haven’t found an answer yet. Add as favourites (0) | Print | E-mail
