Mac Dreamweaver CS3 Slow Anyone? E-mail
Saturday, 24 November 2007
Ever since I switched over to using a Mac about six months ago, I've been looking for an alternative to Dreamweaver for my everyday code editor. I'm still looking (I'll be posting a I-want-to-love-Coda-but-just-can't review of Coda from Panic soon.

I was excited when Dreamweaver CS3 came out because I thought it would be like other Adobe apps and maybe it would lose a little of the bloat it's had for years (I think I started using DW (Windows) with version 2.0). And I thought with it being a Universal Binary application, it would be snappier than the previous Mac versions.

Well, it's not snappier. In fact, it's a dog. I have a 2.4ghz Santa Rosa Macbook Pro and nothing on it should run this slow. There's a real delay in drop-down menus and sometimes when switching from design view to code view, the code doesn't show up until you actually click inside the code.

Adobe has some possible solutions here .

One of these is "Run Dreamweaver in Rosetta mode". Nice. It should read: "make it run slower so it runs faster".

I'm having the same issue with some websites at work. The problem usually happens when switching from code to design view when there are a lot of elements on the page. This is very frustrating and unfortunate because we have to use dreamweaver.

If you have found any good mac clones of dreamweaver, please let me know. This is killing me.

I haven't used Rapidweaver, but depending on how much time you spend in the design view, it might be an option. I find myself using Coda now or Textmate unless I want to create a complex table structure. Then I switch for Dreamweaver. Or if I'm editing a client site that was built using dreamweaver templates (ugh).

Dreamweaver CS3, a glorified text editor, is the slowest program I have ever used. I've had faster 3D software on 68xxx Macs. I am going back to bbEdit and FireFTP (you gotta run a browser anyway).

I write this while DW refreshes my file list. Yawn...

I have been having this problem lately. I use code view but often times check design mode for a quick change in text or img tag. It's getting to the point where I cant really even bother checking design view.

I have been a huge fan of Dreamweaver for years and ever since 8 it's been slow. Now with CS3 I can hardly work. I have been checking for some kind of patch but no release that I can find. We have the whole suit and even photoshop seems extremly slow. Does anyone else see slow downs in the other Adobe applications?

I'm new to mac (just switched from PC) and purchased an entire new (already own the PC version) CS3 package. I was fine with that, but then to find out that DW is as painfully slow (rosetta or not for me) as it is.... well, the pc is back on the desk. The mac does all my work, except for design... seems very wrong. Come on Adobe!!!!!

i also switched from pc and now i wish i knew those problems before. this one is adobe problem but still it exist on mac and not on pc. i\'m disappointed with mac. mac is not good for multimedia designers who use more than one program at a time and work with multiple monitors.

I was thinking of coming back to a Mac, but after reading this I will just stick w/XP Pro is CorelDraw.

I can do all my graphic with CorelDraw but I have to use Dreamweaver for my coding.

With CorelDraw I can do anything.

Ok, I have more spyware, viruses, etc to deal with but at least my Shuttle XPC runs fast.
