Color-coded source in Safari E-mail
Thursday, 13 December 2007
I'm sure this is old news for most long-standing mac-based web professionals. However, I still consider myself somewhat of a Mac-newbie since switching several months ago.

For whatever reason, I'm drawn to Safari over other browsers on my mac. Everything has to eventually be tested in Firefox (Mac), Firefox (PC), IE7, and IE6 - which are all arguably more important than Safari. Yet, I tend to start out testing pages in Safari - probably because I can. The biggest limitation for me in using Safari as my browser in testing had been the lack of color-coding (i.e., syntax highlighting) in the source code. I overcame this by using SafariSource. However, I can't get this working since upgrading to Leopard.

But now I've discovered the debug menu in Safari. It does a whole bunch of things I won't go into or don't understand yet, but mainly the 'Show Web Inspector' command provides a color-coded source view, among other things. I did, however, have to add my own keyboard shortcut to it in System Preferences since it's not included by default.
